We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the development of a cloud-native AI-powered reporting and analytics platform built for community banks and credit unions in the US.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building and scaling the data foundation that powers AI-driven analytics, semantic reporting, and conversational data access.
Location: Remote (Europe)
Employment: Full-time
Schedule: Some overlap with US time zones is expected
Responsibilities:
* Design and implement a 4-layer Medallion architecture to process data from three major banking source systems (Core, Internet, and Online banking).
* Build and maintain robust ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory for overnight data synchronization (T-1).
* Develop a Platinum (Semantic) layer that maps complex banking business logic into governed, metadata-driven views.
* Collaborate on the integration of NLP-to-SQL logic, ensuring the AI generates accurate queries with built-in guardrails.
* Implement rigorous security measures, including Row-Level Security (RLS), schema-level tenant isolation, and PII anonymization protocols.
* Ensure high performance with a target “Time-to-Answer” of less than 5 seconds for analytical queries.
* Collaborate within a mixed engineering team, leveraging advanced AI tools to accelerate development and delivery.
Requirements:
* 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering with strong experience in building Data Warehouses.
* Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS).
* Expert-level knowledge of T-SQL and relational database design.
* Strong experience with Kimball dimensional modeling and multi-layer data architectures.
* Strong understanding of data privacy requirements and experience working with sensitive financial data (PII).
* Upper-Intermediate English or higher.
Will Be a Plus:
* Experience with Azure AI Foundry or integrating LLMs into data workflows.
* Knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Power BI integration.
* Experience in FinTech or Banking domain (familiarity with General Ledger, Loan, and Deposit data).
* Experience building automated testing suites for data accuracy (Gold Report testing).
