The main information (if you don’t like reading long descriptions) * Remote-first team working primarily within UK business hours * Full-time * Team — Platform / DevOps * Experience: 7+ years (SRE experience 3+ years) * English: B1+ * Start date: as soon as possible * Long-term cooperation: we want you to work with us for as long as you can :)
About Us
This position is a direct contract with a leading UK LegalTech company. We build a B2B SaaS platform that helps law firms deliver faster, higher-quality work through AI-powered legal workflows. Our platform streamlines legal processes in a specialised area of law, enabling lawyers to accelerate drafting, negotiation, and compliance at scale.
We are currently entering a significant growth phase. You will join the team ahead of this scale-up and play an important role in establishing the reliability foundations needed to support future growth.
About Team At the moment, our team consists of Developers, DevOps Engineers, Manual QAs, Automation QAs, Project Managers, UI/UX Designers etc. We value: * Speaking up (good ideas are welcome) * Growth (we’ll help you get there) * Learning & innovation (we like experiments that don’t break Prod)
Tech stack * Kubernetes: EKS, multi-cluster, one cluster per tenant. * GitOps: ArgoCD with app-of-apps pattern, Helm. * IaC: Terraform / Terragrunt. * Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Pyroscope, AlertManager. * Cloud: AWS, including EKS, RDS, ALB, Route53, Lambda, SNS, and SQS. * Main workload stack: Python, Django, Celery.
About You This is an SRE role in the proper sense, not just a production support role under a different title. We are looking for someone who has practiced SRE as described in Google’s SRE book and can establish this discipline from scratch. You will be the first dedicated SRE at ILS. Our DevOps team is already building solid infrastructure foundations, including EKS, ArgoCD, Helm-based GitOps, and Terragrunt IaC. The observability stack is also ready — Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Mimir, Tempo, Pyroscope, and AlertManager — and now needs to be shaped into a real SRE practice. This will be your greenfield to own. You will work closely with a DevOps team of three senior engineers plus a lead, who are building the platform itself.
What you will own * Production reliability during business hours, acting as the first responder for fleet-wide issues. * The alerting baseline from the ground up, including meaningful thresholds and actionable alerts. * The reliability discipline across the platform: SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and burn-rate policy. * The dashboard layer that gives the team real visibility across the tenant fleet. * Incident response end-to-end: on-call structure, escalation, runbooks, blameless and action-item-driven postmortems, driving fixes to closure, and continuous improvement of MTTR. * Capacity planning and headroom across 100+ EKS clusters.
Your tasks will mainly be * Building and maintaining a proper SRE practice from scratch. * Designing reliable, actionable monitoring and alerting. * Improving incident response processes and reducing MTTR. * Creating visibility across a large multi-tenant Kubernetes fleet. * Supporting production reliability and operational excellence as the platform scales. * Working closely with DevOps and engineering teams to identify reliability risks and drive improvements. * Supporting backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery practices for the data layer.
Must have * Demonstrated SRE experience: you have owned an SLO-based reliability practice in production and can explain the reasoning behind your choices. * Proven experience operating production Kubernetes environments. * On-call experience in a real production environment. * Strong debugging skills, with the ability to root-cause incidents across cloud, Kubernetes, application, and network layers. * Backup and restore experience with RDS / data layer, including backup, restore, failover, and DR runbooks. * Hands-on experience with GitOps, especially ArgoCD. * Comfortable working with the Grafana stack. * AWS experience, specifically EKS. * Working proficiency in English, both written and verbal. The team is Ukrainian-speaking.
Nice to have * Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture, ideally cluster-per-tenant or other hard-isolation models at fleet scale. * Experience with ArgoCD at scale, such as 1000+ applications or 10k+ Kubernetes objects. * Experience with Mimir. * Experience implementing distributed tracing with Tempo. * Experience implementing continuous profiling with Pyroscope. * Experience working in startup environments.
Our Benefits & Culture * Competitive compensation package * A strong engineering team, a challenging LegalTech product, and the opportunity to continuously learn, grow, and take meaningful ownership * Exposure to cutting-edge LegalTech innovation and high-profile global clients * A unique opportunity to build and shape the SRE practice from scratch before a major production scale-up, rather than inheriting and reworking an existing setup. * No micromanagement * No bureaucracy (well, almost ) * No useless tasks * Meaningful ownership and the ability to make a real impact * Work-life balance * Respect & trust * Supportive team environment
The Hiring Process * HR interview (20-30 mins) * 2 job interviews (about 1h each)
